Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system of mind-body medicine that aims to re-establish the body's natural balance by restoring and preserving physical, emotional and spiritual health. Ayurvedic massage focuses on balancing and promoting the flow of life energy (prana) through the body by manipulation of the body's energy centers (marmas). Ayurvedic massage improves lymph flow, stimulates the immune system, detoxifies, strengthens and revitalizes the entire nervous system, releasing stiffness and stimulating the function of the body's organs. The massage techniques used include tapping, kneading and squeezing as well as some traditional massage strokes that focus on the marma points - similar to the pressure points in reflexology, acupuncture and acupressure. Ayurvedic Massage is performed with the intention to eliminate toxins through purification, strengthen the muscle tone, relax the body and rejuvenate the body. This soothing synchronized massage allows the therapeutic qualities of the oils to penetrate deeply into your body promoting healing at the micro-cellular level. Ayurvedic massage consists of working the soft tissues in the body using specific massage strokes to release the tension. A successful massage will loosen up the muscles and surrounding connective tissues allowing for greater flexibility and more energy for the client.
